AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer Opportunity

The Decatur County Development Corporation is hiring a full-time AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer.

The DCDC VISTA member will create, organize and deliver enrichment activities for K-12 students at 3 schools in Decatur County to enhance knowledge of business opportunities in rural Iowa. These activities will encourage students to remain in school, learn about a profession that piques their interest, and ensure they know what tools will be necessary to live and work in a rural area without being in poverty.

The VISTA will create and lead two programs to connect business leaders with students so students can learn directly from the experts. These activities will support the development of a future workforce base in the county and combat a local workforce availability challenge.

Objective 1: Establish an internship database for local businesses and high school students to connect

Objective 2: Plan and manage enrichment programs to connect business owners with upper elementary and middle school students to introduce them to possible career opportunities close to home, and the necessary schooling needed

Objective 3: Organize financial literacy courses for residents in Decatur County.

The VISTA will serve as a part of Volunteer Iowa's Rural Development and Opioid AmeriCorps VISTA project. Volunteer Iowa is a state agency whose mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering. VISTA members with our program have the benefit of a statewide support network of staff, Commissioners, National Service Programs, fellow AmeriCorps members and a VISTA Leader. Members receive ongoing training, support, networking and professional development opportunities.

Decatur County Hospital

Position: Maintenance Mechanic

Day/Hours: Full Time position; “On-call” hours to be performed in conjunction with job requirements. Various weekend & holiday “on-call” duties.

Summary: Duties require the operation of and preventive maintenance upon equipment to include, but not limited to: low pressure steam boilers, circulating pumps, various air handling units, automated building control system(s), direct digital control (DDC) units, various electrical systems, vacuum and oxygen systems, etc. Additional duties include equipment operations such as a loader tractor and other snow removal equipment, grounds keeping, carpentry, building inspections and documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Prefer high school graduate with maintenance experience within a hospital or nursing care setting. Experience in the maintenance and repair of various systems such as: electrical, heating & cooling, plumbing, refrigeration, etc.

Position: Revenue Cycle Director

Day/Hours: Full Time

Summary: Leadership oversight of the revenue cycle to ensure maximum effectiveness of resources. Monitors key performance indicators and implements improvement strategies for the patient access, health information and billing departments. Management oversight of departments ensuring team work and appropriate staffing.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business management or related field, preferred with a minimum of 2 years prior healthcare experience. Would consider Associate’s degree in accounting/management or related field and 5 years’ experience in healthcare revenue cycle. Strong background in financial management and knowledge of federal and state laws and requirements relating to healthcare management. Strong managerial competencies in the areas of leadership and team development, managerial coaching and mentoring and situational assessment skills. Strong ethics and a high level of personal and professional integrity. Strong analytical skills and adept in interpreting strategic vision into an operational model. An effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral, written and persuasive skills.

Position: Surgery RN

Day/Hours: Full Time, 32 hours/week position; Must be able to cover call and respond within 45 minutes to hospital.

Summary: RN will work recovery room, pre-op admitting, circulate, and scrub.

Minimum Qualifications:
Current Iowa RN licensure, BLS, ACLS certification and a minimum of 3 years nursing experience with at least 2 years being surgical or cath lab.

Graceland University

Graceland University has a part-time position available for After Hours Assistant within the Facility Services Department. This position will work evening/night and weekend hours throughout the year. Primary responsibilities are to answer phone calls, assist customers, lock and unlock doors, monitor equipment temperatures & operation, inspect buildings and campus surroundings and report findings.

Minimum qualifications: One year of job experience in a similar field is preferred. Manual dexterity is required, along with the ability to see, hear, smell, walk, climb stairs, and the ability to lift at least 50 pounds. Graceland University is seeking a full-time Assistant Athletic Trainer on the Lamoni, IA campus. This is a 10-month position reporting directly to the Head Athletic Trainer. Responsibilities include providing athletic training services in the Athletics Department, serving as a clinical preceptor to athletic training students, and other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Head Athletic Trainer. Graceland University seeks an experienced individual for the position of Contract Coordinator. This is a 40 hour per week position in the Graceland University School of Nursing (GU-SON) located on the Independence, MO campus. Primary responsibility includes student support for establishing all contracts and agreements related to the clinical practicums required in the MSN-ANP programs. The successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced multitasking environment, adapt to change quickly, and handle constant interruptions while working on daily tasks. They must also be able to use advanced functions of Excel and Word along with Database use/structure knowledge.

This person supports students by answering e-mails and phone calls in a timely manner, assisting students with submitting documentation, informing them of the rules for practicums, calming a student when they become anxious/overwhelmed, and being an advocate for the student, if needed. This person will also spend a lot of time supporting Faculty as they work with the software for the students’ time sheets, case logs, and evaluations. Will provide other supportive duties as requested.

Graceland University’s Lamoni campus, a small private residential liberal arts campus, is seeking a live-in Men’s Residence Hall Director, an essential team member in the Division of Student Life. The Residence Hall Director is a student-centered, collaborative, and intentional educator who supervises student staff and manages a residential learning community of approximately 250 students. The Residence Hall Director is – first and foremost – a residential educator, responsible for creating and sustaining a community of learners who are challenged to grow in all aspects of their Graceland Experience.
